When you’re that good, your phone is always ringing

Updated: Sep 3, 2020

I have to confess, that when I found out I was having Dale Resteghini on my show this week, I felt a little bit like a star-struck fan. If you’ve seen a music video in the last 20 years, there’s a very good chance that you’ve seen his work. Dale’s highly stylized creations as a music video director have brought him to the forefront of his craft and made him a legend in the music video industry. Dale amassed a portfolio of over 700 music videos in less than 10 years! As Dale likes to say, “when you’re that good, your phone is always ringing.”

I really wanted to talk to Dale about where he came from and how he achieved the awesome success he has now. “It starts with story,” Dale told me. “I was in front of the camera for many years as an actor. When I finally got behind the camera, it opened up the world for me. This is where stories are created and told.”

As someone who works as a commercial actor and a video podcast producer, I’ve felt the urge to move from one side of the camera to the other, and I think many of us share his desire to push ourselves further in our careers. But how did Dale get to the point where his phone was always ringing?

Dale talked to me about his two-part recipe for success: Skill and determination.

“No matter what field you’re in, talent and skill level are going to sustain you,” Dale explains. “I happen to be a multi-analytical Virgo who thrives on chaos… and I can direct the heck out of anything.

“But, it really comes down to your passion and determination and what you want to achieve in life. I’ve always been that guy who says no one is going to out hustle me. Period.”

I know you’re going to love this video. Not only has Dale worked with an incredible list of diverse artists in locations all around the world, his positive energy and down-to-earth kindheartedness make him an inspiring person to get to know.
